This is the sixth in a series here at Work at Home Moms Talk Radio. We’ve asked WAHMs to tell us about one regret, one proud moment, one new friend, one favorite resource and one resolution for the new year. This post is from Alice Seba of Contentrix.
One Regret
This year went by in a blink of an eye. I started a new project that took up a lot of my time in the latter part of the year and while the project has been tremendously successful, I feel a bit like I did when I started my business in 2002…just flying by the seat of my pants.
I prefer to run things planned and ready to go well in advance – not just planned, because planning without doing doesn’t mean much. I also like to have plenty of help on hand and extra time to tinker with those “nice to have” business things. Well, it hasn’t quite been working that way and while it’s been a wild and crazy ride, I’m ready to settle things down a bit and get everything structured and running as smoothly as it should be.
One Proud Moment
There are a number of things I am proud of in my own business, but it’s often what other people do that really makes me proudest. Whether it’s seeing my customers really start to grow and expand…or someone helping another in the work at home mom community, it makes me remember why I started working online nearly 9 years ago.
I have to say the proudest moment is really seeing one particular person come out of her shell and really grasp the invaluable resource she was in control of and use to help others and her family. I don’t want to mention her name, for I don’t want to embarrass anyone…but maybe if she’s reading this, she might know I’m talking about her. She struggled a little over the past year or so to really grasp it, but now she’s a superstar. So proud of her!
One New Friend
Because this year has been a whirlwind, I don’t think any one new friend stands out. But I can say that there are a large handful of friends that I continue to work with, collaborate with and those relationships keep growing stronger and stronger. Not sure where I’d be without them.
One Favorite Resource
Does my iPhone count as a resource? Or maybe the App Store? Most seriously, the iPhone has been a tremendous tool for me as a mom in business on the go and just in general. The iPhone keeps me organized and connected, no matter what I’m doing (and don’t worry – not too connected because I just don’t allow that). I have apps to manage my WordPress sites, file sharing with my assistant, photo editing, managing finances, keeping up with RSS feeds, social networks, stats and more. I can also play Scrabble when I don’t feel like working!
One Resolution
Going back to my regret, things need to be a little more organized this year. It’s funny, but I need to work a little harder to eventually get back to working less. For those that know me, they’re aware that I limit the time working on my business (family first!), but with a new business starting up and other areas facing some restructuring, I will have to dedicate more time to things at the beginning of the year…all with the goal to being my lazy old safe later this year.
