I’ve decided to just accept it. I am more creative and feel more excited about what I’m doing when I just embrace a crazy schedule.
I posted here on the blog back in March about my desire to maintain a ‘normal schedule’ so that I could stay in tune with the rest of my offline world.
But it wasn’t working. It seemed the the harder I tried to keep an ‘up in the morning – in bed on time’ schedule, the less I felt like working during my waking hours. Is that odd?
Yesterday I took a long afternoon nap. I woke up at about 6:30pm and had a (small) bowl of chocolate ice cream. (I love ice cream when I wake up from a nap). I watched some television with Sean and got back to work about 10pm. I got to bed about 3am. Sean’s loves staying up late and sleeping in long into the day – so he loves it that I’m not making him go to bed ‘so early!’
Am I bad Mom to let him have such a weird schedule too? (He’s a homeschooler so it’s not like he has a schedule to keep either.)
There is just something that happens at about 1am… I think of things I don’t think of at any other time of day. And I’m incredibly productive in the wee hours. Nobody is calling on the phone, email and instant messengers are usually pretty quiet – depending on my west coast friends.
It may be crazy but it just might be what I need ;)

Do what works Kelly- forget what “they” say. Who are “they” anyway? ;)
I am that way too – staying up late and getting up a little later then “normal.” It sort of works for me since my kids are little and still sleeping for HOURS at night LOL and since DH’s job is shift work. The only thing that worries me is DD going to school this fall. Then again, I lean more and more toward homeschooling…
:)
I told dh “I quit!” about three days ago, and since then I’ve gotten loads of work done. I’m going to “quit” every week now. It’s great!
Kelly I so totally agree with you! I have always been more of a ‘night owl’ anyways. In fact last night I was up until a little after 4am. My son got picked up at 9am by his dad & then I went to bed at 11 & just got up around 5pm! So I’ll be working into the wee hours of tomorrow now:-). I love working late (or early however u look at) into the morning!

Wow! And here I thought I was the only Night Owl. LOL
I have been this way for as long as I can remember. Working the 2-10 shift on a newspaper didn’t help. (Though grocery shopping at 3 a.m. is much easier than at 3 p.m.)
I keep trying to make myself go to sleep at a decent hour, but it just doesn’t work. And when my kids are in school — I find myself wanting to take a nap instead of working. Wugh! Thank goodness for my staff and partners!
