Focus – A Moving Target

Wow. Thanks to Kelly for letting me be a squatter on her virtual real estate even for just one post!

I want to talk about one of her favorite topics – Focus. Kelly even interviewed me when she revamped the Power of a Focused Business awhile back because good things had happened for me when I embraced my niche.

I don’t consider myself a hypocrite when it comes to this topic. I’ve encouraged my own subscribers and coaching clients to focus. I thought I had the focus thing pretty much down.

You know what? I’m coming to the realization that focus is more like a moving target than a one time shot. It seems to me now that every few months, I have to work on focusing again.

Lately I’ve felt like my brain was made of scrambled eggs. Do you know that feeling? It’s not that I didn’t want to work or didn’t have motivation, it’s that my brain (egg) was getting pushed around a hot pan (scrambled) in so many different directions that I felt a little overcooked!

I had to make some decisions that felt a little scary at first. For instance, I’ve decided to move out of one of the markets I was targeting so that I could focus more on another. This could mean a temporary drop in income for me, but it will be well worth it in the long run… and maybe in the short term even. Several of my friends have told me that I’ll be able to make up the difference rather quickly because of the power of focus.

I’m looking forward to making things better and better.

Last week I spent one whole day freshening up a couple of content sites that had grown a little dusty. They had gotten that way because I didn’t have time to get to them. When I started delving into these sites, I realized what potential they had – and some of the silly mistakes I had made with them, all because of a lack of time! (It just so happens that these two sites are in the market that I’m focusing on. Just in case you were wondering.)

It feel great that after just spending a couple of hours dusting them off, I noticed an immediate spike in earnings almost immediately. Isn’t it interesting how much easier it is to make money improving an existing project? :-)

Well that’s about all I had to say for right now. The next time I get that scrambled eggs feeling in my brain, I’ll look around and see what I can get rid of.

And if you’re interested in buying this work at home Mom faq site, please email carrie at carrielauth dot com and make an offer. I’ll get back with you with more details. Ok? :-)

Carrie, I’m geeked for you to be further focusing your business! You’re right… to some extent we are aiming at a moving target and we have to be willing to evaluate our direction every now and then in order to have the greatest success.

I’ve admitted recently that I had to go back to a ‘Focusing Anonymous’ meeting and face the facts that I had let myself get unfocused again… chasing easy profits just because I could – not because I should ;)

I wrote a special report about it that people can claim when they sign up for my Focusing Tips over at The Power of a Focused Business.

Thanks for taking part in my Open Blogging Weekend!
