My Word for 2014: Lift

Once again Nicole Dean challenged her blog readers to choose a word that will shape the new year and after quite a tussle in my thoughts, I’ve chosen: Lift.

It’s one small word with a lot of meaning for me.

I want to Lift my limits.

We all work within perceived limits.

Today I’m living and working in space I used to consider way beyond my limits. The funny thing is, as I blew through those old limits, new limits formed around me.  It’s the way it goes.  We operate in a comfort zone and if we stretch ourselves out into new areas – soon enough we’ll grow comfortable there too.

I want to always be stretching and growing.  I want to be honest with myself about my current limits and willing to do what it takes to Lift them.

I want to achieve Lift.

This is a reference to the miracle of flight of course.  I want to build up so much momentum that my plane, in this case, my first live multi-speaker event, achieves Lift and flies on to great success.  I’m planning to give Exposure & Profit a lot of time and attention to create that momentum.

I want to Lift others up.

In all of my plotting and planning for 2014, the strongest urge I’ve felt is to focus on being of benefit to my Tribes.  I’m a leader of a Tribe at Solo Masterminds.  I’m a member of many wonderful Tribes as well.

I’m kicking off a tight knit new Tribe with my Coaching Mastermind right now. This is something I’m very excited about building.  I want to foster the development and growth of a great new group of Coaches.  I want to create an environment of growth and a group dynamic that literally Lifts everyone to a new level.

I want to Lift my weight.

This is about being physically strong, yes.  It’s also about being mentally and spiritually strong.  Over the last few years, a lot of people have had to step up and help me.  I can’t tell you how grateful I am that they were there for me.  I can’t fathom where I would be without them.

I am walking into 2014 with my health fully restored.  I am excited to stand on my own two feet and not be a drag on anyone around me.  I’m praying about ways I can return the many, MANY favors given me.

I will take a Lift when offered.

This one is going to seem a bit odd considering what it follows, but I want to be open to help other people offer.

People want to be helpful and Tribes grow and mature when you foster an environment where contributions are welcome from it’s members.  It’s too easy to be independent to a fault and I’m determined this year to be more open to what others have to offer.

So, what about you? Have you chosen a word for 2014?  What is it and what does it mean to you?  Be sure to tell Nicole!

  1. My words for the year are Willingness, deliberateness and momentum. I love picking three words because it helps me stay mindful of my intention through out the year. I love your word this year, and I know you’ll be successful in everything you try, one way or another.

  2. Kelly McCausey

I used three words for 2013: Email, Kindle, Curate. They were meant to describe what I’d focus on through the year. I did pretty good with Email and Curate but totally flopped on Kindle LOL!

  3. My three words for this year (my first time trying this) are focus, discipline, and wealth. I hope they are what I need. I tried to pick just one, but they all kept yelling at me to pick them. I know I need all of them to make 2014 my best ever year. Thanks.

  4. My word is Engage. I was certain that shrinking my goals down to three words would be impossible, but in the end, once I let myself see it, it was clear that there could be only one.

  5. My word is FOCUS.

    Focus on 3 biz goals.
Focus on 2 health and fitness goals.
    Focus on 2 wealth goals.

And within those goals I’m focusing on just a few highly effective strategies using the 80/20 rule.

  6. Kelly, I love this word: “Lift”. And I also appreciate the words so many entrepreneurs are coming up with for this year. Mine happens to be “Restoration” , and similar to you I’m looking for a restoration (or lift) in my health and my horizons (taking the limits off). Great word.
