Social or Forum? The Good, the Bad and the Indifferent

Nasa Control Center? How many love social networks? Who here loves forums? Go ahead put your hands down I can’t see you anyway..heh heh.  Some believe social networks with snuff out the good old fashion forums (are they really old fashion?) and for a while there I thought it may be so, at least for the work at home mom forums. Lately that could not hold water as they seem very active.

Forums hold a tremendous value in networking, seems people are remember this too, hence the increased activity. I also have to mention accessibility to topics you choose to participate in is the #1 reason I enjoy a forum! In fact, forums are still my favorite place to go to meet and greet, join conversations from personal to business and not miss anything.

One downfall I have come across in forums is the cliques that form. For the most part they are harmless, sometimes though it can just ruin a person’s day if they are bombarded with a group of people they unknowingly ticked off.

Social networks like Twitter and Facebook are essential tools in networking too, I agree with many who believe this to be true. At first I wasn’t finding my groove and thought maybe, just maybe those talking social networking up so high were just blowing smoke up everyone’s rear-end. Of course that was when I found out I wasn’t making the social sites work for me. It was missing the “I” factor.

Social networks are not as cut and dry as forums, they take some getting used to. They take some figuring out. Gaining 20,000 followers you got from some kind of mass follow program, who aren’t nothing more than a picture and a link will not increase your traffic or business! However, building small and slow say you gain 500-1000 followers by following all by yourself, you will find your building lasting business contacts and relationships with people behind the picture and link.

I will say Twitter for me is #1 for my pick of the social networking sites. I do believe I like it better because of the ease of use, the relationships I am building and the fact I don’t get crazy spammed on it.

Do they get cliquish like forums? In my honest opinion they are not as bad. However, the main downfalls for the Social Networks are the live streams. Unless you are on 24/7 you’re going to miss something and the bigger the follow list the faster the stream moves. While that should not be a big deal, it can be!

Social Networks and Forums while differ greatly on set up have their good and bad points. The one thing they don’t differ on is the value to the work at home mom!

Are you on the big dog social networks Facebook and Twitter? Are you a member of forums? I would like to know what you think about both!

I've noticed that for a while I'd neglected forums where I used to do most of my networking in favor of social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. But I inevitably return to my favorite forums to see what everyone's been up to.

I view forums and social networking sites as being like apples and oranges – you approach them differently and they each have so much networking potential for WAHMS.

Hello I just lost my job. I have searched all the job boards more times than thousand times and sent off hundreds of resumes. However, i have not been able to find a single good response to my resumes. If anyone knows about any particular place where i can look for a good job, please reply me with the location details. I will be thankful to you for your early response.
