Every year PC Magazine puts together their list of The Best Free Software. This year there are 173 freebies listed. Do you have something particular you are looking for? They have broken down the list into categories like blogging, calendars, and office – just to name a few.
My best picks for WAHM’s include:
- MozyHome Free – secure online backup system which is free up to 2 GB. You schedule the backup time.
- TweetDeck – If you Twitter, you need TweetDeck. See the tweets you missed while you were away or organize the people you follow into manageable groups so you can easily see their tweets, all in a customizable multi-column view.
- Flock – A browser which integrates your social media like Twitter and Facebook posts in the same view. It also easily allows you to drop links and images to a clipboard for later use, or write a blog post on the fly without leaving the webpage you are on. (I LOVE Flock!)
- GIMP – Don’t want to shell out the money for Photoshop? GIMP has everything you need.
- Zamzar – This online file conversion tool is a WAHM’s dream. It handles all document, image, and music and video formats. For example, use it to convert a PDF to a Word document, or .bmp file to .jpg file.
What free software do you use that you recommend as a “must have?”

I so love tweet deck when I’m home. When I’m at work I use twitterfox it is the best tool to use when you can’t download software. I never heard of flock. I’m going to have to check that out.
Felicia – I Complete Mes last blog post..A Reality Check
I’ve never even heard of Zamzar but it looks awesome. I’ll have to try it out. My favorite is mostly definitely OpenOffice though. I use OpenOffice Calc at least 10 times a day.
Okay I am breaking down and downloading tweetdeck.
Danielles last blog post..Enjoy the Journey or Not!
Hi Danielle! I held out too, but once I started using Tweetdeck I loved it. I like keeping separate columns for different categories of people, and having a couple of constant searches for keywords I’m interested in.
I’m stoked about this list! Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. I’m going to send it to my technology lovin’ husband right now!
