One of the hardest things that I found when I started working from home was avoiding the scam artists that are out there. They are out there. They want to take your money and run.
Here are my tips that I learned firsthand:
Verify, Verify, Verify – I can’t stress this enough. Google search the company that you are looking at. Check all the information that you find. If it seems too good, it most likely is.
Know who you are dealing with. There are forums online that talk about companies that you are looking at. Check them out. See what ex workers say. Now remember to take some of it with a grain of salt. If it is only one person complaining, it may just be them. If it is a lot of people complaining, that’s more than likely a good reason to look elsewhere.
Don’t believe that money comes fast. – If they are advertising that you will make $10,000 every month, you can pretty much guarantee that you won’t. It takes a long time to make that kind of money.
Don’t put money out too fast. – Some companies do ask you to pay for background checks for positions. But if they are asking for more than that, check farther into it. Get more details. Remember you are the only one that is protecting your assets.
Be suspicious if you get an email from someone offering you a job. – Unless you know the person emailing you, most likely it is fraud that is coming at you.
Find out about the refund policy – Obviously if it is for a background check, they aren’t going to give you your money back. But if they offer you a money back guarantee make sure that you read all the fine print.
